Waiting On God

Last night I was reading the last chapter in 2 Peter, and stumbled across the following verse, but the awesomeness of it didn’t hit me until just now.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

– 2 Peter 3:8

This verse really puts my simple mind into perspective.

God works on his own timeline, and not within the twenty-four hours, seven days a week, twelve months a year time table that we experience life in. And sometimes I forget that fact in my prayers.

We have the promise from our Lord in John 14:14, that says “If you ask me[ anything in my name, I will do it.”

Our God is faithful, and with no doubt He will answer all prayers that we ask. It just might not happen when we want it to happen. Or happen in the way that we ask.

His ways are beyond our understanding, and He knows what is best for us. Be patient, because our God is patient.

You Are Loved!

Well today is Valentines day. A day full of glittery cards, flowers, heart shaped candy, and candle lit dinners. But I also know that there are people out there that won’t be enjoying these things. They may be hurting, have been through a recent breakup or divorce, feel lonely or depressed in their singleness, seeking for love from another person, not feeling love in their current relationship, and the list goes on. It can be overwhelming.

Wherever you are in your life today, know this: you are so loved by God!

Let those six words sink in for a bit.

Alright, so maybe the words I have typed are not convincing enough. How about we turn to the perfect word of God! Here are seven very good reasons to really know and believe this:

1. He created you in his image

So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
    male and female he created them.

– Genesis 1:27

2. He knew you before you were in the womb

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

– Jeremiah 1:5

3. He knitted you together in your mothers womb

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

– Psalm 139:13

4. He loves you

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

– 1 John 4:16

5. He died for you

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

– Romans 5:8

6. Nothing can separate you from the love of God!

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

– Romans 8:38-39

7. He has given you everlasting life through Jesus

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

– John 3:16

It is my prayer that today that you are overwhelmed by the love God has for you.

I think we can all agree that having a honest and clear conversation is very difficult online, but that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse for when there is miscommunication. Recently I ran into a situation where my actions online resulted in the other person feeling rejected and hurt by my absence of communication, and that was not my intention at all.

This happened to line up with a mens bible study in Colossians this Wednesday.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

– Colossians 3:12-13

I believe the Lord has brought both this verse and this situation into my life for a reason. To discipline me, and to show me who I am when I’m not fully walking in the Spirit. Right now I feel that I have a lot of room for improvement.

So it is my prayer for myself and others that we are constantly maturing in faith with a compassionate heart for others, show kindness just as Christ has for us, strive for the meekness of Moses, bear with not just my brothers and sisters in Christ, but everyone that need support, and to forgive others even when it is tough.

All of this is possible through the Spirit that God gave us.
